      Nelson Villanueva

This is the most recent workshop Cecilia Vicuña conducted in Caleu, a community in central Chile where she has been working since 1995.

        http://oysi.org/2012/05/caleu/

The workshop is part of the Oy School, (the school of listening), a floating school of wisdom created by the artist. Its principle is to listen for native forms of knowing, as way to empower indigenous children and communities. Art, music and dance are used to reconnect the elders with the children.

The Dream of the Child of Aconcagua

The inkas sacrificed children to the gods (Apus) of the mountains. They selected the children from the ruling elites of the provinces. The children were taken to Cusco, the Inka capital, where they were honored as gods. They participated in the rituals and, after a year, they had to walk with their entourage to the summit of the highest mountains of the Andes for their sacrifice. These children were called "capacocha" (kapaqocha) principal sacrifice. The child of Aconcagua was probably a native of the Valley of Aconcagua. This video is an extra to the film "Kon Kon" by Cecilia Vicuña, Chile, 2010.
